This website has information for you on the topic of culture and development. It is part of the Culture and Development programme carried out by CulturCooperation e.V. and funded by the European Commission.

Cultural factors often have huge potential that can be realised to contribute to improving living conditions. Cultural forms of expression such as crafts or fashion, the work of museums and cultural tourism are not only a means of socio-cultural and political participation but also a source of income and an important factor in economic stability.

The specifically cultural skills, knowledge and experience in each set of circumstances are often wrongly understood as hindrances to cooperative development work. An overview of the last decade of development projects, however, shows clearly that traditional political and economic approaches are ineffective on their own. For the future it will be of major significance that culture is given adequate consideration.

This website takes a look at the artistic and cultural potential in the development context and gives an overview of initiatives and projects working on culture and development. You will find information, material and contacts for selected topics. The website is also designed as a supportive medium for the setting up of the network on culture and development planned on a European scale.

As part of the Culture and Development programme the website covers in detail the main topics of the first three-year phase of the programme: Craft and Development, Cultural Heritage, Cultural Tourism and New Museum Movement.

The aim of the programme is: Encounters between North and South and the joint determination of fair political solutions and strategies for action on culture and development. The Culture and Development Programme and the various activities will also be presented and documented on this website.

Diese Website informiert über das Thema Kultur und Entwicklung. Sie ist Teil des Programms Culture and Development, das von der CulturCooperation e.V. mit Förderung durch die Europäische Kommission durchgeführt wird.

Auf dem Weg zu besseren Lebensbedingungen bergen kulturelle Faktoren oft ein enormes Entwicklungspotential. Kulturelle Ausdrucksformen wie Kunsthandwerk oder Mode, aber auch Museumsarbeit und Kulturtourismus sind nicht nur ein Medium der soziokulturellen und politischen Beteiligung, sondern auch Einkommensquelle und ein wichtiger Baustein ökonomischer Stabilität.

Die spezifischen kulturellen Fertigkeiten, Wissen und Erfahrungen zu den jeweiligen Lebensumständen werden in der Entwicklungszusammenarbeit aber häufig als Stolpersteine missverstanden. Dabei bestätigt die Bilanz der letzten Dekade von Entwicklungsprojekten: Die herkömmlichen politisch-ökonomischen Ansätze sind allein wirkungslos. Für die Zukunft ist es entscheidend, dem Faktor Kultur eine angemessene Bedeutung zu geben.

Diese Website betrachtet das künstlerische und kulturelle Potential im Entwicklungszusammenhang und gibt einen Überblick über Initiativen und Projekte, die zu Kultur und Entwicklung arbeiten. Zu ausgewählten Schwerpunkten finden sich Informationen, Materialien und Kontakte. Die Website ist auch ein unterstützendes Medium für den geplanten Aufbau eines Netzwerks zu Kultur und Entwicklung auf europäischer Ebene.
