The textile industry

Today the textile and clothing industry is a sector which is determined by the huge brand-name companies operating on a worldwide scale. Production takes place for the most part in developing countries and economies in transition where local conditions, wage and working conditions are especially favourable to the company. Around 80 percent of the garments sold in Germany today are made in Eastern Europe or the Far East. In the countries of the North in which most clothing is sold hardly any is produced by local firms.

Textilindustrie

Die Textil- und Bekleidungsindustrie ist heutzutage ein Sektor, der von großen weltweit agierenden Markenunternehmen bestimmt wird. Produziert wird vor allem in Entwicklungs- und Schwellenländern, deren Standort-, Lohn- und Arbeitsbedingungen besonders günstig sind. Etwa 80 Prozent der in Deutschland verkauften Bekleidung wird heute in Osteuropa sowie in Fernost produziert. In den Ländern des Nordens, in denen das Gros der Waren verkauft wird, sind hingegen kaum noch Produktionsstätten ansässig.
