The Vienna Institute for Development and Cooperation (vidc) has founded the department "moving cultures" in 1987 with the aim of promoting arts and culture in the development context. Moving cultures as a department of vidc is an Austrian lobbying and competence centre for the arts and culture from Africa, Asia and Latin America. The objective is to enable a dialogue based on equality and plurality of the different cultures. The projects undertaken are multidimensional: moving cultures provides professional arts and cultural events, information on development policy and global issues and enables encounters for personal exchange. Since 1992 the vidc has also supported cultural projects in the South, such as the Ndere center in Uganda. www.vidc.org

Royal Tropical Institute, KIT (Koninklijk Instituut voor de Tropen) in Amsterdam is an independent centre of knowledge and expertise in the areas of international and intercultural cooperation. The aims of KIT are to contribute to sustainable development, poverty alleviation, and cultural preservation and exchange. Within the Netherlands it seeks to promote interest in and support for these issues. A key objective underlying KIT´s work is to enhance and exchange knowledge of and understanding for different cultures. Furthermore KIT is one of the few big European NGOs involved in culture and development programmes over many years. KIT activities cover: capacity building and institutional development of museums, an object ID programme currently running in 14 countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America that is an important capacity building programme for museums. KIT offers training and advice in the fields of collection management, exhibition design, communication with target groups, management policies, etc. Furthermore, KIT houses the Royal Tropical Museum which is one of the largest ethnographic Museums in the Netherlands and one of the leading museums in this field in Europe. www.kit.nl

New Museum Movement

International Cultural Exchange (IKA) is a German NGO that was founded in 1980 with the aim of publishing a review on international cultural themes. The editors have 20 years´ experience in presenting topics on international cultural exchange. It is one of the few NGO publications which have covered a wide range of topics concerning culture and development politics. In the context of the work programme IKA is to take the main responsibility for the publications of the brochures which will be appear in the form of IKA magazines.

International Council of African Museums, AFRICOM is a non-governmental, autonomous and pan-African organisation of museums, created in October 1999 in Lusaka, Zambia. AFRICOM seeks the development of African societies by encouraging museums in their role as initiators of culture and agents of cultural cohesion. The mission of AFRICOM is to develop museum policies and networking on a continental and regional level, focusing on the cohesion of cultures beyond geographical and linguistic barriers. AFRICOM promotes the participation of museums in the context of global and sustainable development, strengthens networks for collaboration and cooperation among museums professionals in Africa and abroad, and lastly, involves all components of society in the protection and enhancement. Internationaler Kulturaustausch (IKA) ist eine deutsche NGO, die seit der Gründung 1980 das Ziel verfolgt, internationale Themen aus dem Kulturbereich in Themenheften zu präsentieren. Die Herausgeber haben in 20 Jahren Erfahrungen in der Recherche und Präsentation von Aspekten des internationalen Kulturaustauschs gesammelt. Die Zeitschrift für Internationalen Kulturaustausch (IKA) ist eine der wenigen Publikationen, die auch die Breite des Themenkomplexes Kultur und Entwicklung abdeckt. Im Rahmen des Projekts Culture and Development ist IKA zuständig für die Gestaltung und Herausgabe der Magazine in Form von vier IKA-Heften.

Der International Council of African Museums, AFRICOM ist eine unabhängige panafrikanische Nichtregierungsorganisation afrikanischer Museen. AFRICOM wurde 1999 in Lusaka, Sambia, gegründet. Der Dachverband vertritt die Interessen afrikanischer Museen und stärkt sie in ihrer Rolle als gesellschaftliche Akteure kultureller Prozesse.
